Events & Civic Engagement

Community is at the heart of Crowning the Culture.
Through events, service initiatives, and ongoing engagement, we create spaces where education meets action and culture meets care. Our community work centers youth, families, and collective well-being — online and on the ground.

  • Our workshops are interactive, education-driven experiences designed to equip participants with practical knowledge rooted in the science, psychology, and lived experience of Black hair. Through hands-on demonstrations, guided discussions, and culturally relevant instruction, we break down topics like hair anatomy, wash day routines, protective styling, and self-care practices. Each workshop is intentionally structured to be accessible, affirming, and empowering—meeting participants where they are while giving them the tools to confidently care for and understand their crowns.

  • CTC panels create space for critical dialogue at the intersection of Black hair, identity, culture, and advocacy. Bringing together educators, creatives, professionals, and community leaders, our panels center lived experiences and expert perspectives to explore topics such as hair discrimination, representation, mental health, and cultural pride. These conversations are designed to challenge stigma, educate audiences, and foster collective understanding through storytelling, reflection, and community engagement.

  • Our seminars are structured, lecture-style learning experiences that provide deeper dives into the history, science, and social impact of Black hair. Ideal for schools, organizations, and community institutions, CTC seminars emphasize credible information, research-backed insights, and cultural context. Participants leave with a clearer understanding of how Black hair functions, why it has been historically politicized, and how education can be used as a tool for empowerment and equity.

We offer a range of services to meet the needs of every client. Have something else in mind? We'd be happy to work with you to create a custom quote.

Curly Crown Service Initiatives

Curly Crown Service Initiatives are Crowning the Culture’s civic engagement and community service programs designed to uplift, educate, and serve communities through culturally relevant hair care education, wellness, and affirmation. These initiatives are spearheaded and executed by Mister & Miss Curly Crown, alongside their Executive Assistant and the Community Service Committee, and center service as both education and empowerment.

Hair Care Drives

Our Hair Care Drives provide culturally appropriate hair care and wellness items to individuals and families who often lack access to products designed for textured hair. These drives are rooted in dignity and equity, ensuring that people with type 3 and type 4 hair receive the tools they need to properly care for their crowns while also addressing broader wellness needs within the community.

Curiosity for Your Porosity

Hosted monthly by Mr. Curly Crown

Curiosity for Your Porosity is a monthly tabling initiative that offers direct, personalized hair care consultations to community members. Participants complete an on-site hair porosity test and receive tailored guidance on wash day routines, product selection, hydration methods, and maintenance strategies specific to their hair’s needs. This initiative transforms hair care education from guesswork into accessible, science-based support.

Monthly Mini Service Projects

Hosted by the Community Service Committee

Our Monthly Mini Service Projects focus on small but impactful acts of service that uplift both people and spaces. These initiatives include activities such as community cleanups, Crown Me Days, and hair affirmation tables where individuals are encouraged to engage in positive self-talk and cultural pride. Each project is designed to strengthen community bonds while reinforcing the importance of self-worth and collective care.

Boys & Girls Club Workshops

Hosted by Miss Curly Crown

These workshops bring Crowning the Culture directly into youth spaces, offering interactive hair care education for children and teens at local Boys & Girls Clubs. Through age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, and affirmations, participants learn the basics of caring for their natural hair while developing confidence, pride, and a positive relationship with their crowns.
